How to: Install Nero 7 on Vista and burn Cd on Vista

Windows Vista lacks proper Cd burning abilities with the built-in burner software included in Vista. Although this problem persists on all windows platforms, there are many alternative third party applications to burn DVD. One of the applications is Nero. But when installed on Windows Vista, it refuses to run Nero (7 version) and to tell the truth Nero 7 is not compatible with Vista. Nero Maker Ahead is not interested in releasing a Vista compatible installer until this operating system gets stable.

The problem is that the installation breaks when you try to install Nero 7 on Vista. But there is a possiblity to run Nero 7 on Vista, but it in a highly unofficial way.

Hacking down Nero versions are available on the internet and the project is called Nerolite and this will install smoothly on Vista. This project is gaining popularity day-by-day and you can expect more from them in the future.

The registry error which comes with the Nero installation disappears with the use of the new installer (Inno Setup Installer) .

Download latest Nero 7 lite installer from softpedia and install it on Vista; and, it results in a flawless install.

When you initiate the install you will get the welcome screen to Nero 7 lite and i don’t think i have to instruct this step with an image.

Move to next window by clicking on Next and you will see registration form. No need to fill the serial number and click on next to proceed to further step and click Finish. That’s easy and Nero is installed on your vista operating sytem.

But this doesn’t make your Nero 7 lite install valid, you still need to follow one extra step after the installation to make it run correctly. You need to run this application in administrator mode. It is easy to make a application run in adminstrator mode in vista.

I was actually pretty angry when I found out that Nero didn’t work on Vista. I know every company has to make business decisions about what they support, but I paid good money for Nero and then … plop, I couldn’t use it anymore after upgrading to Vista. Ridiculous! I will never invest in Nero again, even though I absolutely love the program.
